Eva O
is an independent audio and video recording artist, who is best known as one of the pioneers of the L.A. Death-Rock scene. Her career started in 1979 when she relocated to Los Angeles from her home town of Las Vegas, Nevada, to develop herself as a musician.
She began her musical journey with her first band, The Speed Queens which never produced a studio recording but did gain a respectable reputation amongst the punk scene in California. The Speed Queens were together for about two years before breaking up and Eva went on to form her next band, the Super Heroines. The Super Heroines was a three-piece dark-metal, punk band that released their first L.P. in 1981, entitled Cry for Help.
Around the time of this release’s recording she was requested by Rozz Williams to sing backing vocals on the album, Only Theatre of Pain. Cry for Help was released three months after the band was formed, on Bemis Brain /Enigma Records and was followed by their sophomore album, Souls that Save, which features Eva O‘s classic hit, Children of the Light. Their last L.P. was entitled Love and Pain and was released on Cleopatra Records. The Super Heroines experienced different members but Eva always remained the soul-creator and leader of the band.
After her time with Super Heroines, Eva went on to form her next band called Shadow Project. Shadow Project was an artistic collaborative effort between herself and her then partner, Rozz Williams, from the band Christian Death. Shadow Project was signed to Triple X Records and released one L.P., two cassettes and five C.D.’s. Their sound was very unique as it showcased a blend of death-rock, metal, and glam rock textures. 1990 saw the release of Dead Babies, an Alice Cooper cover that was featured on a tribute album entitled Welcome to Our Nightmare, as well as their first self-titled L.P.
In 1993 Shadow Project released their sophomore album called Dreams for the Dying. The band also recorded a live album in 1994 which was entitled “In Tuned Out”. In 1998 Shadow Project released their last album entitled From the Heart, of both new material and acoustic reworks of earlier songs.
Eva also lent her talents to the band Christian Death, performing both guitar and backing vocals on the albums; Iron Mask, Rage of Angels and Path of Sorrows. In between Shadow Project and contributing to Christian Death she also began a solo career and was approached by Cleopatra Records in 1993 to record a CD as Eva O. 1994 saw her first solo release; Eva O, Halo Experience for which she did a documentary video and tour for to showcase the new project. After Halo Experience and the last recording of Shadow Project, Eva released her next solo album entitled Damnation/Ride the Madness which was released in 1999 and was followed by a second part entitled Damnation/Salvation which was released in 2005. The album was released through Massacre Records and Eva did a tour for this piece as Mz O and Her Guns.
Since then she has continued to create and express herself through several artistic mediums and musical projects, developing a strong cult following over the years.
She has gained both national and international recognition in the goth, death-rock and black-metal musical genres and cultures, respectively gaining the title, The Queen of Darkness.
Her latest and most current project is Eva O MDX1. MDX1 has thus far only released a limited E.P. called Mental Mayhem. Mental Mayhem is the start of a much larger story Eva is currently working on called, Cold as Far. Mental Mayhem is an exploration into the mind is a statement on owning who you are. It is both an audio and visual experience as it is accompanied by the current MDX1 music video trilogy of three songs from the E.P. entitled I Hate, Coming to Get you, and Demoneekaah.
